Long Exhale
Breathe out for twice as long as you breathe in. One of the most reliable ways to calm your nervous system.
Start Long Exhale (10 min)
Follow the circle: it grows as you breathe in and softens as you breathe out.
The 4-8 pattern, step by step
- Breathe in for 4 seconds.
- Breathe out for 8 seconds.
That is one round, lasting 12 seconds, or about 5 breaths a minute. Repeat it gently for around 10 minutes. If any count feels too long, shorten it: the breath should always feel comfortable.
Gentle reminders during the session
- Let the out-breath be slow and smooth, like a long sigh.
- If 8 feels long, simply breathe out as slowly as is comfortable.
- Your heart rate gently slows on every exhale.
- Nothing to do now but breathe out.
- Feel your body getting heavier.
- You are doing this beautifully.
